KefaRid - Mould protection coating

Water is life, including for mould and bacteria

Condensation and moisture in walls

So-called "anti-mould" paints use biocides (toxins) to stop mould and bacteria in their tracks. While this chemical 'therapy' visually removes several of the culprits for a while, the results are only superficial. The underlying cause of the problem – i.e. freely available water on surfaces – remains untreated. Little wonder then that this method has never worked satisfactorily, and that it has been unable to provide enduring protection.

While "regular ventilation" is widely known advice and helps to remove moisture, it does little to remove mould.

A more effective approach is to avoid wet walls, drop-formation or water-logged building structures in the first place.

With pores against spores - the working principles of KefaRid

The strategy is ingeniously simple: life cannot form where water is lacking. When the surface tension is removed from collecting water, it is more easily vaporised. Surfaces dry faster, and the ingredients for life are removed for mould and bacteria.

The secret in the KefaRid protective coating are small 'holes', e.g. microscopically small pores in the material. The collecting moisture is distributed in the structure, so that the water can vaporise quickly.

The key: mould cultures 'die of thirst' on a dry surface treated with KefaRid, since they no longer have access to freely available water.

KefaRid also prevents condensation from dripping. This is particularly important for food processing operations since proper hygiene on surfaces eliminates the possibility of transferring bacteria and mould spores to food.

Systematic mould prevention

The KefaRid system is exceedingly suited for preventing as well as repairing mould growth. The following three components (in combination, if needed) guarantee a maximum of protection and longevity:

KefaClean - the system cleaner for Kefa coatings. KefaClean is an aqueous surfactant solution with very good cleaning properties.

KefaSeal – Special primer, only for highly-absorbent substrates.

KefaRid – Protective coating with physics-based action. It can be sprayed on or applied with a roller/brush. The standard colour is white. KefaRid can also be toned with dispersed, water-soluble, opaque paints.

Advantages of KefaRid at a glance:

•    physics-based mould protection

•    dry surfaces

•    warmer surfaces

•    health-compatible

•    creates surfaces with proper hygiene

•    controls moisture

•    protects the building structure

•    almost no electrostatic discharging
